An open-source planning methodology for systems-based sustainable development
VISIS stands for Vision > Indicators > Systems > Innovation > Strategy — five critical steps in planning for sustainable development.
VISIS is a way of working on sustainable development in whole-systems, inter-disciplinary way, usually in a group setting. It was developed by Alan AtKisson in the late 1990s to support local planning efforts and educational programs. VISIS, first described in Alan AtKisson’s book The Sustainability Transformation, has been used around the world in business, government, universities and schools. It is also ideally suited for working with the SDGs, and was included in a UN toolbox published to support SDG implementation.
VISIS is an open-source methodology — that is, anyone can use it.
An 2018 guide to using VISIS published by the now-closed firm of AtKisson, Inc. is available below to read or for download. Note that the document copyright, marked AtKisson, Inc., now belongs to Alan AtKisson.
